Retirees bid adieu to the Beacon; Bonjour to the future with the CEA Advisor

All good things must come to an end, and so it is with The Beacon, CEA-Retired’s newsletter

Beacon editor Pat Foley, with assistance from the members of the CEA-Retired Newsletter Committee and CEA staff, has worked hard to keep retired members informed about the retirement issues they confront, positions taken, work being done by CEA and CEA-Retired, and the benefits and importance of membership in our general CEA/NEA organization.

Times change, however, and with every year’s review, decisions are made that are in the best interest of CEA-Retired and CEA as a whole. One of the changes will be that The Beacon and some other stand-alone publications at CEA are being consolidated and incorporated into CEA’s main publication, the award-winning CEA Advisor. The CEA Advisor will continue its excellent coverage of important education news and, beginning this fall, will include additional information about CEA-Retired. Articles will include information about county meetings, general meetings, and important topics such as COLA and proposals before the state legislature.

The organization will also utilize its award-winning internet website (www.cea.org), and electronic publications to keep members informed. All CEA-Retired members whose valid email addresses have been given to CEA will receive copies of the E News and other important electronic message from CEA and CEA-Retired. If you have not yet given CEA a valid email address, you can do so by sending it to Cheriey@cea.org.

If you do not have email, you can always access the CEA website from a friend or family member’s computer, or a public library. You only need your membership number (found on your membership card and on the mailing label of each issue of the CEA Advisor) to get onto the CEA website.

Not everyone has internet access, so members are encouraged to stay connected by reading the CEA Advisor, and attending membership meetings in the fall and spring, and county meetings, held three times per year.
